The charging time is the time in hours required to charge an electric vehicle battery from 0% to 100%.
The charging time depends on:
- The energy capacity of the battery (in kWh).
- The (maximum) charging power (in kW).
How is the charging time calculated from empty to full battery (using linear calculation)?
Battery capacity in kWh / (Charging power in kW × 90% efficiency)
Example:
- 64 kWh / (2.3 kW x 90%) = 31 hours
- 64 kWh / (7.4 kW x 90%) = 9.5 hours
- Condition: the charging station is set to its maximum capacity according to the electric vehicle, specifically the number of phases of the EV’s inverter and the amount of current the inverter can handle.
- Charging time for a fully empty 64 kWh battery with linear calculation.
- Charging speed at an electric consumption rate of 15 kWh per 100 km.
